a)Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy

The Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is a latest pain treatment therapy that uses injections of a concentration of a patient’s own platelets to expedite the healing of injured tendons, ligaments, or cartilage.

PRP is useful in following conditions:

  • Tennis elbow (Outer elbow pain)
  • Knee Osteoarthritis
  • Shoulder pain from rotator cuff tear/tendinopathy
  • Heel pain (Plantar Fasciosis)
  • Achilles Tendinosis causing heel pain
  • Ligament and Tendon injury of knee, ankle and wrist

This therapy is usually devoid of complications as it involves treatment from own blood. Most importantly, PRP therapy into the involved ligament, tendon or joint is done under real-time ultrasound guidance so that precise delivery of the therapeutic medicine is ensured.

b)Growth Factor Therapy

Growth factor therapy is again another advanced therapy similar to PRP where patient’s own blood is collected and after centrifugation in the machine, growth factors are separated and injected into the damaged joints, ligaments and tendons. This therapy is useful in knee arthritis, shoulder rotator cuff injury, heel pain, and tendinopathies.

Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) also called thermocoagulation, is a minimally invasive medical procedure which uses an electric current to heat up a small area of nerve tissue to stop it from sending pain signals to the brain. RFA has proven to be a safe and effective way to reduce pain of some conditions including:

  • Back pain from facet arthritis
  • Trigeminal neuralgia (Facial pain)
  • Back pain from sacroiliac joint
  • Knee osteoarthritis
  • Hip pain
  • Chronic pancreatitis
  • Neck pain from facet arthropathy
  • Shoulder pain
  • Nerve-related pain

This is an excellent minimally-invasive treatment modality for patients suffering from back and leg pain from slip disc/sciatica and also for neck pain which goes go hand and forearm. This procedure is done in OT under X-ray machine guidance and local anesthesia and it has an excellent safety record. Many patients from slip disc suffering from sciatica experience excellent pain relief from this procedure and when combined with lifestyle changes and physiotherapy, this procedure can avoid the need for spine surgery. And this is the most common interventional procedure performed worldwide by Pain & Spine specialists.

This is done at all levels of affected spine, including lumbar (low back), thoracic (mid-back) and cervical (neck) levels.

Suitable for:
-Sciatica/Slip disc
-Cervical/Neck pain
-Post-spine surgery persisting pain
-Spinal canal stenosis

Neuropathic pain is a burning, stabbing, tingling pain experienced in the region of damaged or an irritated nerve.Conditions such as shingles (herpes zoster), trigeminal neuralgia, diabetes, carpel tunnel syndrome (fingers pain), and other entrapment neuropathy can lead to neuropathic pain. If medication fails to relieve the pain and suffering, then interventional pain management may help you significantly.

Sympathetic nerves are a specialized nervous system which are responsible for pain from abdominal organs (stomach, pancreas, intestine and liver), blood vessels and others. These are again very safe minimally-invasive therapy for managing pain from:

-Vascular (blood vessel related) disease like Buerger’s disease causing pain and blackness
-Cancer pain from pancreas, liver, gall bladder, intestine, ovary, uterus and others
-CRPS, a debilitating pain condition

Ultrasound in recent times has emerged a great imaging modality for Pain Specialists not only in diagnosis but also for treatment. It is of immense value in diagnosing many joint, tendon and soft tissue pain conditions and helps in delivering medicines at the target place with great precision. Today, a great variety of interventional pain procedures are done using real-time ultrasound guidance; thus enhancing the therapeutic value and minimizing side effects.

We are the ONLY PAIN CLINIC in ODISHA and among FEW SELECTED CENTRES IN INDIA to have Ultrasound machine in the Clinic.

Shoulder joint pain and diagnosis
-Frozen shoulder, Subacromial bursitis and Shoulder arthritis
-Tennis elbow PRP treatment
-Knee arthritis Intra-articular injections (Viscosupplement, PRP, Growth factors)
-Other major and small joint injections
-Injections for De Quairvain’s Tenosynovitis (wrist pain), Trigger Finger (Finger base pain), Plantar fasciitis (Heel pain) and Achilles pain
-Nerve-related pain like Meralgia Paresthetica (outer thigh pain), Carpal Tunnel syndrome (fingers pain with numbness), Post-herpetic neuralgia and other nerve pain
-Ligament and Peritendon therapy

Botulinum Toxin (BOTOX) injection allows experienced health care professional to inject into the affected muscles which blocks pain signals.

Botox is helpful in following conditions:
-Migraine Headaches
-Trigeminal Neuralgia,
-Myofascial Spasm
-Spasticity

Many chronic conditions still remain undiagnosed despite many costly diagnostic tests like CT, MRI and others. Hence, we offer many diagnostic nerve blocks which are typically done under X-ray or Ultrasound guidance to see if patients experience temporary pain relief from the block and then subsequently, advanced treatment is planned.

Indications are:
-Back pain from facet joints, sacroiliac joints,
-Neck pain
-Headache
-Nerve pains

Vertebroplasty is an outpatient spinal procedure in which bone cement is injected through a small hole in the skin into a fractured vertebra for stabilizing compression fractures in the spine and relieving back pain. This procedure is maximally benefitting to patients.

Best done in:
-Osteoporotic wedge compression fracture
-Cancer-related bone osteoporosis

This is useful and considered the last form of treatment in patients with:
-Failed back surgery syndrome (persistent back and leg pain following one/many spine surgeries),
-Reflex sympathetic dystrophy (CRPS)
-Refractory Vascular pain
-Post-herpetic neuralgia
-Phantom limb pain

Intravenous injection of medications like Lidocaine and/or Ketamine is considered helpful in refractory nerve-related pain conditions where patients have exhausted all options of medical therapy.

This can be considered in:
-CRPS
-Refractory PHN (Postherpetic Neuralgia)
-Post-traumatic neuralgia
-Central post-stroke pain syndrome
